Also, MCCM just recently posted over at GNXP about a new discovery that so-called hippocampal place cells in rats, which selectively fire when the rat is in a particular spatial location, repeat their spike pattern in reverse order after a trajectory of locomotion is completed. That is, the place cells corresponding to the current location fire first, and those corresponding to the starting location fire last. The authors speculates on the reason for this reverse "instant replay".
